More Perks for Pelosi?
From this morning’s The Hill:
Pentagon officials are bracing for a fight with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over her desire to allow lawmakers’ adult children to tag along on taxpayer-funded travel for free.
Needless to say, some were a tad bit surprised.
But taxpayer watchdog groups and ethics advocates said they were surprised Pelosi would seek more perks for members.
“One of the things she was praised for when she came in was her sweeping reforms on gifts and travel,” said Craig Holman of Public Citizen. “It is very disheartening if she is, in fact, backsliding on this.”
This request comes following requests earlier this year for a personal “Air Force 3” for the Speaker.

This has nothing to do with Nancy Pelosi’s perks as ridiculous as she is.
My great concern is farm subsidy spending. I realize that farmers have had some rough times and the subsidy idea has been a big help. But, come on, we all know that many of the recipients of these subsidies have never had any intention of farming the land they receive whopping amounts of subsidies for. It’s just another show of absolute greed - not need. As far as I am concerned, this is no better than those folks who prefer to sit around and live off welfare, while they run around, drink, use drugs, and make more babies for the taxpayers to have to support.
I, among others, feel that there needs to be a sweeping reform in the area of farm subsidy entitlement. When those of us who don’t qualify for a program such as this have hard times, many times we just have to hump up and take it and figure out a way to cut back on our spending. If it sounds like I don’t think anyone should ever receive any help, it’s not true. I’m all for helping those who are really in need. But I resent helping someone for the sake of greed. Unfortunately, everyone does not have a conscience that would direct them in the right way. For that reason, I hope you would consider working on this problem (well, it’s a problem to me). I hope to hear from you on your ideas about this matter.
Thank you.

This reminds me of April 15th, about ten years ago, at about 11:30 pm. While I was writing a check for $2,300 for my underpayment of income taxes, the TV was showing Hillary, Chelsea, and a bunch of friends boarding a plane for Africa. They were on a handshaking tour of several nations. I wondered how many taxpayers like me does it take to pay for a trip like that? I think election day and income-redistribution-day ought to be closer together.

Are the lawmakers going on vacation or working, seriously. If I want to take my kids along on any of my business trips I’ll use up my points. I’d never even think about asking the boss for a free ride for the kids. He’d be all over me about the vacation vs work issue.
