Washington, Feb 9, 2008 - U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today announced that he will tour the Pope County town of Atkins in order to inspect the damage inflicted by the deadly storms of February 5.

Rep. Boozman will meet at the Atkins Fire Department at 11 a.m., February 9, to meet with Pope County Judge Jim Ed Gibson and Atkins Mayor Jerry Don Barrett. The group will discuss the federal response to the storms, tour damaged areas, and meet with first responders.

“For the last few days, I have been receiving regular updates from my Arkansas staff, who has been offering assistance during the recovery process,” Boozman said. “I look forward to meeting with Judge Gibson and Mayor Barrett to see if they are receiving all the help they need in order to help the people of Atkins.

“I also plan to thank the first responders and the volunteers who have come forward to help their neighbors, actions which represent the truest expression of the Arkansas spirit,” Boozman added.

The Atkins Fire Department continues to maintain a hotline for victims to call for assistance with cleanup, construction, labor, food, and water. The telephone number is (479) 641-1442.

Residents of Pope County have been extended Individual Assistance benefits from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Disaster victims can register for the assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA.
