Washington, Jan 16, 2008 - U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives John Boozman (AR-03) and Mike Ross (AR-04) today announced that the James Fork River Water District will receive a $1,485,000 Rural Development grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The James Fork River Water District also will receive a $1,820,000 loan from USDA.  The funds will be used to build a water distribution system that will provide a safe and adequate water supply to approximately 350 new rural customers.

"These federal dollars will help provide critical water infrastructure improvements that will support growth in the region," said Lincoln.  “I commend the James Fork River Water District for working to secure these significant Rural Development investments to provide water services to new users in rural areas."

“Hundreds of families will receive a reliable, sanitary supply of water as a result of this project,” said Pryor.  “It’s a wise investment that will protect their health and spur overall economic growth.”

“This is important funding to ensure water service to our rural residents of Western Arkansas,” Boozman said. “I am very grateful for the work of the James Fork River Water District, and congratulate them on securing this federal money which will directly benefit Arkansans.”

“This significant federal investment will go a long way toward continuing growth in Scott and Sebastian Counties by providing our rural residents and families with access to a safe and secure water supply,” Ross said.

USDA Rural Development grants support public facilities and services, promote economic development, and offer technical assistance to help address the diverse and unique needs of rural communities.
