Boozman Applauds Russellville Native’s Legal Externship
Washington,
Nov 13, 2009 -
U.S. Representative John Boozman (AR-03) announced the completion of a legal externship by Russellville native, Jonathan Kelley.
Kelley spent the Fall 2009 semester assisting Boozman and his staff with legal research, legislative drafting, and policy development out of his Lowell office. Kelley was instrumental in researching water quality regulations, exploring alternative solutions to water quality issues, and drafting legislation recognizing the importance of Arkansas rivers.
“This is great, practical experience for Jonathan as he pursues his law degree,” Boozman said. “I am confident that Jonathan’s legal education has benefitted from his service to the people of the Third District of Arkansas and we appreciate his research efforts on an issue as important as water quality.”
“Water quality is such an important aspect of life in Arkansas. I have enjoyed being able to use my legal education to assist Congressman Boozman, and his staff on various water quality issues,” Kelley said. “I know that this experience will be invaluable to my career because it has allowed me to personally witness how law, and public policy are formed."
Kelley, 24, from Russellville is a 2006 graduate of Arkansas Tech University where he majored in Political Science and Spanish. He is currently a third year law student at the University of Arkansas School of Law at Fayetteville. He anticipates graduating in May 2010, and sitting for the Arkansas Bar Examination in July 2010. Jonathan is the son of Ed and RoyBeth Kelley of Russellville.
